This past weekend we were relatively free, which is rare, so we spent most of it combing thru used bookstores searching for gems & we found quite a few, including nice hardback copies of War and Peace & Foucault's Pendulum.
Saturday we finally used a couples massage/facial gift certificate that Ed & Debbie gave us at Oasis Spa, which was so nice & relaxing, especially since I just got over being sick. Ken had never had a massage or facial before, so it was quite an experience for him ;) Then we met up w/ Jasper's friend Alvin & his wife, Jenny, for dinner at a very good Japanese restaurant called Chiyono. Alvin & Jenny were here on vacation, so we showed them around to a couple of our fave East Village after-dinner hangouts - Angelshare & Decibel.

haha! that was a unique (and funny) experience!
the scariest part was when they put what i thought to be at first little slices of cucumbers on my eyes (but they ended up being just cotton pads), and then i heard a high, wheezing sound which i thought initially was the facial specialist's deviated septum, until it exceeded a time duration beyond any ordinary human ability. my next thought was that the hissing was the radiator kicking in. until i felt a hot, moist steam on my face. i thought it was an angry hot iron being placed dangerously close to my head. i still have no idea what the steamer looked like...
